| Chapter 3 |

"I really owe my life to you Donghae, I wouldn't know what to do if I hadn't, no, wait, if you hadn't bumped into me. I'd have to go back home! That would be awkward, wouldn't it?" Eunhyuk thanked Donghae once again as he set foot into Donghae's small little apartment.

Donghae's apartment smelt mainly of caffeine, reason being that Donghae always made sure he'd have at least a cup of coffee to either start or end his day off. Eunhyuk did not really like the smell, but he decided it'd be best to keep quiet about it if he wanted to have a place to reside in, other than his home. Sure, Eunhyuk could go to his managed hotel, Carpe Noctem, but he did not want his other employees to find out or suspect that he had problems of his own. Eunhyuk was the type that preferred to keep his work and personal life separated. As much as staying in Donghae's house was self-contradictory, Eunhyuk felt like he had no other choice.

Donghae cleared his throat loudly. "You're exaggerating, Eunhyuk. Yeah it would be awkward, but it would also be a good opportunity to talk things out with your fiance,"

Eunhyuk shook his head in disapproval. "She's not my fiance anymore,"

"Okay..." Donghae scratched his head nervously.

"Anyway, my home's not much but I hope you'll find my place at least uh, adequate?" Donghae finished off lamely as he closed the door behind him.

"It's fine, your home's really cozy," Eunhyuk said.

"Make yourself at home," Donghae gestured, smiling to Eunhyuk as he took off his leather coat and gloves. Eunhyuk gladly returned the smile while walking towards Donghae, who was beside the clothes rack undressing himself.

"Thank you, Donghae," Eunhyuk mumbled under his breath. Suddenly. Eunhyuk leaned in to give Donghae a hug. Donghae blinked his eyes in confusion and let his hands fall to his side awkwardly.

"I really don't know what I'd do without you. You might have saved my life, I was seriously thinking to just get run over by a car," Eunhyuk whispered, his tears gradually coming out again and soaking Donghae's brown turtleneck.

Donghae widened his eyes in shock. He immediately brought his hands up to hug Eunhyuk back, no matter how awkward he found the whole situation. Heck, he didn't care if it was awkward; Donghae was just glad that he had saved Eunhyuk's life.

They stood in that position for a good few minutes when Eunhyuk pulled himself away from Donghae and wiped away his tears that just could not stop flowing out of his eyes.

"What a night," Eunhyuk smiled weakly as he tried his best to hold in his tears.

Donghae nodded in agreement. "What a night indeed,"

---

"Here, go and take a warm shower and get yourself changed into these clothes. Wouldn't want you to be getting a cold now do we? We have work tomorrow." Donghae smiled while handing Eunhyuk some of his clothes which Eunhyuk gladly accepted.

"Those clothes should fit you snugly since we're about the same size," Donghae said.

Eunhyuk nodded. "Yeah they should. But hey! I'm buffer than you," He argued.

Donghae rolled his eyes. "Whatever that makes you happy,"

Eunhyuk laughed and turned on his heel, making his way to Donghae's bathroom. Donghae shook his head, smiling. He then made his way towards the kitchen and took out some vegetables and meat from his fridge to make some warm porridge for Eunhyuk.

---

"What's this?" Eunhyuk blinked, gesturing to the warm meal in front of him.

Donghae fought back the urge to reply to his boss sarcastically.

It's food, have you not seen food before?

"I made you some supper. Like I said before, wouldn't want you to be getting a cold now, do we?" Donghae forced a smile to Eunhyuk's stupid question. "Have a seat, Eunhyuk. The food's getting cold,"

Eunhyuk nodded and obediently sat down on the chair that Donghae had pulled out for him. Donghae sat on the opposite site of the table and watched as Eunhyuk took his first bite. Donghae anticipated for Eunhyuk's reaction, but obviously, Donghae had expected too much from Eunhyuk. The latter did not even blink or smile as he kept on taking bites of Donghae's sincerely-made porridge. Donghae was not angry, just disappointed at the lack of thankfulness from Eunhyuk.

"How is it?" Donghae asked, not tearing his eyes away from Eunhyuk.

Eunhyuk stopped taking bites of the porridge to look at Donghae, only to answer simply, "Delicious,"

Donghae decided not to probe on further and just kept silent throughout the meal, watching Eunhyuk. As Donghae watched, Donghae swore that he saw a sad smile flash on Eunhyuk's face, disappearing as quickly as it had appeared. Donghae wondered why Eunhyuk's smile looked so sad as he ate Donghae's food. Donghae decided to brush it off, thinking that Eunhyuk was still hung up about his fiance's affair.

---

"Thank you for the meal," Eunhyuk thanked politely as he dragged the chair to stand up and do the dishes.

"Leave it there, I'll do the dishes," Donghae interjected before Eunhyuk could turn on the tap.

Eunhyuk turned to stare at Donghae. "But I-"

Donghae raised his hands to silence Eunhyuk. "It's fine, really. Go and get some rest. I've already prepared my bed for you to sleep in. I'll sleep on the sofa, so go,"

"But-" Eunhyuk tried to argue once again.

"Aren't you tired? You've had a horrible day, so why don't you cut yourself some slack and just rest? No more buts, I don't want to hear it," Donghae interrupted, surprised at how authoritative he sounded like.

Eunhyuk opened his mouth to argue, but closed it after thinking twice about what Donghae had stated. "Thank you," He said simply before walking off and complying to his employee's orders. It was ironic, how the boss was listening to the employee instead of the other way round.

Donghae smiled, clearly satisfied with himself as he turned on the tap to do the dishes.

---

Donghae woke up in the middle of the night that day. From where he was, Donghae could hear exasperated voices in his room where Eunhyuk was in. Donghae contemplated whether to check out what was going on, but he decided to stay where he was when he heard Eunhyuk's voice.

"Pack up all your stuff..."

"We're over..." was all Donghae could make out from Eunhyuk's conversation. After that, there was a deadly silence, followed by muffled sobs coming from Eunhyuk.

Donghae wanted to go over and console Eunhyuk, but his instincts told him to just leave his boss alone and go to sleep.

On that very day, Donghae could not find it in his heart to sleep.
