| Chapter 4 |

"Donghae, wake up! Why are you still sleeping?" Eunhyuk practically screamed in Donghae's ear while shaking his body violently.

Donghae groaned and squinted one eye open lazily, but shielded it once Eunhyuk suddenly threw open the curtains. Donghae turned over on the sofa and buried himself deeper into the blankets, only to have it yanked off from him.

"Wake up! We have work today!" Eunhyuk yelled.

Donghae registered what Eunhyuk had said in his mind and that seemed to trigger him awake.

"Why didn't you say so earlier! What time is it?" Donghae said frantically, shooting up from his sleeping position. Eunhyuk chuckled at the sight and pulled out a small pocket watch from his breast pocket. He shoved it in front of Donghae's face and Donghae zoomed in on the said object, squinting his eyes to look at the time.

"What the- It's only 3AM!" Donghae whined as he flopped back onto the sofa, covering his face with his pillow.

Eunhyuk widened his eyes in disbelief. "Only 3AM? We're late Donghae, late!" He tried to wake Donghae up again while shaking him hurriedly.

Donghae, still half asleep, decided then that he needed to destroy the disturbance in his house. With Eunhyuk still shaking his body, Donghae lifted up his legs and kicked Eunhyuk in the gut with all the strength he could muster. Eunhyuk fell back on his bottom and stared at Donghae,  his eyes almost dropping out from his eye sockets.

"Donghae!" Eunhyuk shrieked as he got back on his feet and started pulling on Donghae's hair. This time, Eunhyuk was greeted with Donghae's flying hand swatting his face.

---

"Someone's grumpy," Donghae deadpanned as he got out of the shower and dried his hair, looking at Eunhyuk sitting folded on his bed with a angry pout on his face.

Eunhyuk turned to glare at Donghae. "Well, someone's not a morning person," Eunhyuk mumbled angrily.

"Well now you know, so don't bother me in the morning," Donghae scoffed, rolling his eyes. "Why are we up so early anyway? Work starts at 6AM, and the bus ride from here takes only about half an hour!"

Eunhyuk narrowed his eyes. "Work starts at 6AM and the bus ride from here only takes about half an hour? So you only go out of the house at 5:30AM? No wonder you always come right on time," Eunhyuk said sarcastically.

"I'm starting to question your abilities as my personal assistant," Eunhyuk teased, liking the horrified expression etched on Donghae's face.

Donghae immediately turned off the hair dryer to look at Eunhyuk in the eye. "I-, I'm sorry, I just-" Donghae stammered nervously.

Eunhyuk raised his hand to silence him, which Donghae did, and laughed. "I was just joking, now hurry up, we have to go to work! Time waits for no man,"

Donghae nodded and complied to Eunhyuk's orders. In less than thirty minutes - which was a miracle, because Donghae always takes about an hour to get ready - Donghae was done and set to go.

Eunhyuk nodded approvingly and flashed Donghae a satisfied smile, which made Donghae satisfied with himself as well.

---

"I hope you didn't mind me choosing your best suit for work today," Eunhyuk stated as they sat side by side on the bus. Donghae tore his gaze away from the window and smiled genuinely to Eunhyuk.

"It's fine," Donghae replied.

The rest of the journey on the way to Carpe Noctem was a silent one after that since Donghae was not much of a speaker and Eunhyuk did not know what else to say.

Trying to relieve the awkward tension, Donghae took out his MP3 from his bag and inserted one of the earpieces into Eunhyuk's ear himself, much to Eunhyuk's surprise. Eunhyuk peered (not so sneakily) at Donghae's MP3 as Donghae began scrolling through it, searching for music to play. Donghae on the other hand, was careful not to play any romantic or heart-breaking songs, considering Eunhyuk's situation.

Finally, Donghae settled on a Chinese song by TimeZ, 'Hurray For Idols'. That song always made Donghae happy with the liveliness and upbeat beats, so Donghae was pretty sure Eunhyuk would enjoy it too. Fortunately, Donghae was right. Eunhyuk had smiled halfway through the song as he nodded his head to the beat of the music (Donghae perceived it as Eunhyuk liking the song).

---

"Woah Donghae, why did you come to work with ass-hyuk today? And why the hell are you suddenly so early?" Changmin asked eagerly once Donghae had taken his seat in his small work space.

"Yeah man, it's weird how you were chattering with him so easily when all this while you hated him," Kris suddenly joined in the conversation, leaning against the frame of the small glass panel of his work space.

Donghae sighed at the sudden two towers hovering above him and loosened his tie around his neck. "We just happened to bump into each other at the entrance of the building, and being the good employee I am, I started a conversation with him. I'm early because, uh, well... my dog kept licking my face in the wee hours of morning and I decided to go to work early. Yup, that's right," Donghae tried to convince them.

Kris raised his thick eyebrow in suspicion. "Since when do you have a dog?"

Donghae gulped and cleared his throat. "I adopted one a few days ago," He answered simply.

Changmin was about to speak up when the pager on Donghae's desk suddenly beeped. "Donghae, my office. Now," Eunhyuk's voice boomed.

Changmin and Kris gave Donghae an encouraging pat on the back as Donghae sighed and stood up from his chair to enter Eunhyuk's office.

"Good luck," The duo had whispered, to which Donghae responded with a, "Hope he doesn't kill me or something," jokingly.

---

Donghae poked his head inside of Eunhyuk's office and strutted with confidence when Eunhyuk had given him permission to enter. However, Donghae's confidence didn't live long. It shrank seeing Eunhyuk's stern expression.

"Yes?" Donghae asked nervously, bringing his hand up to rub his neck.

Eunhyuk gestured for Donghae to sit; Donghae obediently complied and waited for Eunhyuk to speak up.

"I forgot to tell you this earlier," Eunhyuk started off slowly as he stood up from his chair and walked towards Donghae. "but you absolutely cannot tell anyone about me living in your house for the time being,"

Donghae tilted his head in confusion. "Why?"

"Because I do not interfere my work with my personal life. What would the employees think if they knew I was living under your roof? Me, the boss, living with you, a mere personal assistant." Eunhyuk explained elaborately.

Donghae did not know why, but his heart hurt a little hearing Eunhyuk's explanation. A mere personal assistant? Am I that unworthy? Donghae wondered.

"Okay," Donghae nodded. "can I go now?" he asked politely.

"You're dismissed," Eunhyuk told him with a wave of his hand.

It was then that Donghae realized. Eunhyuk could not be his friend, they were mere coworkers, and nothing more. They were not meant to be friends. Eunhyuk was too much of a higher status than Donghae. The thought saddened Donghae, but he understood fully well that they were just coworkers working together for Carpe Noctem.

Donghae made up his mind to not get too close to Eunhyuk. After all, I'm just a mere personal assistant. Donghae narrowed his eyes at the choice of Eunhyuk's words.

---

"So what'd he want?" Kris peered nosily.

Donghae sighed audibly. "To remind me how asshole-worthy he is,"
